In the evening of 3rd September 2012, I was on my way back from the Office. When my train halted at the busiest junction in Mumbai, I was in for quite a surprise. It was raining heavily, the trains had stopped for obvious reasons and the station was packed with stranded workers on their way back home. As I walked out of the station to the bus stop I was knee deep in water with a bag on my back and an umbrella in my hand. But God taught me early in life not to set my eyes on the present situation but to set my eyes on Him. If you focus on the negative situation it will always result in negative emotions being produced like hatred, anger and jealousy. But when you focus on Jesus, His Love and everything He offers you it always produces positive emotions like love, joy and peace. So like David in the book of Samuel, I encourage myself in the Lord. (1 Samuel 30:3-6)
The road was jammed with traffic and the buses were not moving. It was then that I decided to walk back home. There was no other option, really!
I cleared my throat, encouraged myself, sang and praised God as I walked for 3 kms through the flooded streets.
As I praised and thanked God for Jesus, His sacrifice and all that He does for me, the time passed by so quickly. The heavy rains, the flooded streets and the hour long walk back home did not seem like such a big deal anymore. To tell you the truth, I actually enjoyed my walk back home that night.
The Bible says: Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!.... Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. (Philippians 4:4-9)
Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ... (Ephesians 5:17-20) (Colossians 3:16)
